‘Browns Hotel’ London
‘Door Handles that Pop’
‘Browns Hotel’ London
‘Browns Hotel’, is situated in Mayfair, London.
I was comissined by Olga Polizzi of Rocco Forte Hotels, to design and make bespoke glass door handles for all the bedroom doors and all the hotel bedroom wardrobe doors.
The bedroom glass door handles, as pictured above, were created using a hot glass technique where molten glass is taken from the furness and pulled between 2 people to create a rod of glass.
Each rod consists of clear glass with an opaque orange core.
The ends are polished ends and the rod is bonded into specially made chrome fittings.
The bespoke glass wardrobe door handles were made in 4 colourways to suit the interior.
Each handle was kiln formed, fusing colour to a base glass.
The image above shows green and clear fused glass, silvered and mounted onto a toughened base. The fittings are small pillars in stainless steel
Illustrated above, an example of bespoke kiln-formed glass wardrobe door handles in oranges and red, silvered.
This example shows the colour way of yellows and greys, a much softer visual effect as the colour is fused onto an opaque white base glass.
After this commission I worked with Olga Polizzi creating bespoke glass bowls and table tops for other Rocco Forte Hotels including The Balmoral in Edinburgh.
‘Door Handles that Pop’
These drawer handles were commissioned by a couple whose home was full of fun and colour!
The glass was cast in the kiln, chunky and textured with pops of colour.
I had been commissioned to make a colourful glass splashback for them a month earlier and they additionally wanted some small glass handles to liven up some plain furniture.
The silvering on the back of the glass brings the handle to life and the colour to a new intensity.
I mounted the glass onto wooden, painted supports.
A lovely set of tactile glass handles.
